Is your vehicle ready for summer?

With winter (hopefully) in the rearview mirror, drivers in Grande Prairie will be gearing up for a few months of warm weather driving.

The usual spring checks on your vehicle should be top of mind, as the harsh conditions faced in the winter can wreak havoc on your engine and other moving parts. But, what about the smaller details?.

Randy Loyk with AMA says Grande Prairie drivers have one vital piece of equipment they need to make sure is put away for the summer, the block heater plug.

“We see a lot of people that leave them dangling out through the summer and of course when next winter comes along the cord is usually damaged and not working. Tuck it away and make sure it’s safe.”

Loyk says once you get under the hood dealt with of it, it’s time to sort out your tires.

“If you are running winter tires you might consider taking them off here real quick because you don’t want to wear them out more than you have to. So get your summer tires on and you should be good to go.”

Loyk says, in the end, the best way to get your vehicle prepared for summer, spring or really any season is with normally scheduled maintenance.
