Mayor praises Grande Prairie entrepreneurial spirit following release of CFIB rankings

Grande Prairie Mayor Bill Given believes the versatility of residents and business owners is what set the city apart from the rest of Alberta on the recent CFIB top entrepreneurial communities list.

Grande Prairie ranked 6th in the mid-sized community category, and Given says it comes as no surprise.

“People in the north have always made their own fortune and we haven’t waited for others to influence that. I think this ranking is reflective of that underlying spirit.”

Tied with Collingwood in Ontario, Grande Prairie marked high on the three main criteria, Policy, Perspective and Presence.

Given took pride in the highest mark of 30.3 out of 33 in the “policy” category which looks at things such as the municipal property tax ratio.

“Of all the places in Alberta, Grande Prairie is well positioned, and probably the best-positioned place looking forward. I think that it’s no surprise that we are top of the list for Alberta communities.”

Grande Prairie was the only Alberta city which made the top 10 in the mid-sized community category.
