A group of Grande Prairie Regional College students are showing off what businesses could open in the city in the future. The Small Business Entrepreneurship class, along with some fitness students took part in the 6th annual Business Plan Tradeshow.
Kendra Olson’s online gym business called WI-FIT gives people an alternative to the traditional workout video.
“People can interact live online. Rather than a workout video where you’re following along, I’m live there and I can correct your form, your exercises, give you alternatives and stuff like that in real time.”
Before WI-FIT, Olson ran a small scale gym at her home. She says she was finding that a lot of her clients were cancelling because of children or things coming up at home. This gives them an alternative.
Business student Parker McMurphy brought his idea for a computer repair business called Dynamo Computer Builds and Repair. He says he’s worked with computers all his life and would like to see a business in Grande Prairie where people can learn about them.
“I thought that if there was a storefront that would help people build computers, maybe offer workshops, I feel that would be very beneficial to the City of Grande Prairie.”
Business professionals and people from banks are brought in to view the projects and answer any questions the students may have. The tradeshow is a class requirement and all the projects are for marks.
