Smoke detectors not only save lives, but also personal property, as shown at a fire in the County early this morning.
Shortly after midnight, fire crews responded to a monitored residential fire alarm and found smoke coming out of the attic area of a shop next to a house near Lawra Estates.
No one was home at the time, and no injuries have been reported, but the shop sustained heavy damage to a wall, its roof, and a mezzanine.
However, firefighters were able to save work trucks, a boat, and a side by side, which Fire Chief Everett Cooke credits to the smoke detector.
