Local curlers to represent Alberta at Under 18 Curling Championships

A group of curlers are on their way to Sherwood Park for the 2019 Under-18 Boys and Girls Curling Championships. Grande Prairie Curling Club and Sexsmith Curling Club members Cortland Sonnenberg, Owen Fenske, Jaxon Hiebert, Adam Elsenheimer and Coach Les Sonnenberg are one of fourteen boys teams that will compete for the title.

Cortland is the son of Renée Sonnenberg, who represented Alberta at the 1999 and 2001 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Renée is also a coach for the Curling Canada women’s program and the analytics lead.

Alberta will have two boys teams at the event. The first one, which previously won the Alberta U-18 title, is skipped by Nathan Molberg from the St. Albert Curling Club. The other is skipped by Cortland.

The championships will run from April 2nd to 7th at the Glen Allan Recreation Complex. A full schedule of all the games can be found online.
