Female Midget Elite Storm set to host Hockey Alberta Provincials

Around 100 female hockey players are about to descend on Grande Prairie. The Peace Country Athletic Club Female Midget Elite Storm is preparing to play host to the Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships this week.

This will be Storm Forward Vanessa Lagace second year at the tournament. She says she’s hoping to leave with the top prize.

“We’re looking forward to just having a good time, working hard and hopefully capturing the gold.”

Five teams will be competing in the tournament including the host club, St. Albert, Sherwood Park and two teams from Calgary. The Storm won the chance to host the event after putting in a proposal. This will be the 3rd time in five years it’s been held here.

This will also be Storm Centre Ashley Death’s second time at the tournament. The first time around her team got second place and she hopes they can do a bit better this time.

“When I went a few years ago we got silver but I’m really confident with the team we have going in right now so I’m hoping that we do really well.”

The Storm’s first game will be played on March 28th at 11:15 a.m. vs. Calgary Red. Assistant Coach Barry Wallan says this tournament could come down to good goaltending.

“Our goaltending has been very strong down the stretch here for the last 10 games and our team seems to play good or better when our goalies are playing well.”

All game will be played at the Coca-Cola Centre. They are free to attend but the Storm will be collecting donations for the Jumpstart Program. A full schedule and results can be found on the Storm’s Facebook page.
