UPDATE: Search teams dispatched for apparent false report of people in danger

UPDATED WITH NEW INFORMATION FROM RCMP

A seemingly bogus report of people in danger had authorities searching the Crystal Lake area Thursday morning. Grande Prairie RCMP was first responding to a report of a break and enter around 3 a.m.

When the suspect was found near the lake, police were told there may have been other people on the body of water with them. Corporal Maria Ogden says search and rescue crews also responded and found that the entire body of water was frozen. There were no signs anyone else had been out there.

STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched to fly over the lake as a precautionary measure, and it was verified that there was no way anyone could have fallen through the ice into the water. An investigation into the break and enter is still ongoing.
