Eaglesham students get hands on lesson in trench warfare

A group of 27 students braved the cold Monday night to get a taste of what life was like for Canadian Soldiers serving in World War I a century ago.

On the eve of Remembrance Day, the students from Eaglesham School, Hill Crest Christian School, and Ridgevalley School spent about 4 hours digging trenches that they later slept in.

The youth also participated in a small recreation of the Battle of Mont Sorrel in 1916, where 8000 Canadian soldiers died.

This was the seventh year students have taken part in the trench life exercise.
