It turns out that $1.75 million projected deficit at the Eastlink Centre may actually be more like $3 million.
In addition to the bookkeeping error that miscalculated expected revenues, expenditures are also expected to be over budget by a million by the end of the year.
City Manager Greg Scerbak says 2013 revenues were reported at $8.2 million dollars, when they were actually $6.2 million.
“Because they felt they had lots of revenues, they could actually hire more staff to provide customer service, and so that’s what happened in terms of the additional deficit.”
Some job contracts have not been renewed and all non-essential spending is on hold.
The City is in the process of contracting an external review of the facility.
