Eastlink Centre to lower membership fees

It will now cost less for people in Grande Prairie to access services at the Eastlink Centre. On Monday night, city council approved a membership fee decrease that Financial Business Advisor Shauna Hanson says the new prices will give people a discount of 15-25 per cent.

“The fee adjustments at the Eastlink Centre for family, adult and senior one year, six month and continuous monthly memberships will go down by 15 per cent. Student one year, six month and continuous monthly memberships will go down by 20 per cent and youth and child memberships, annual, six month and monthly will be reduced by 25 percent.”

Currently, the centre also offers a corporate discount of 20 per cent and an anniversary discount of 25 per cent. Those discounts will be lowered to 5 per cent and 10 per cent. For people who don’t qualify for either of those, an annual prepaid membership for a family is $1528.80 and for an adult, it’s $764.40. With the new fees, those numbers would go down to $1325.50 and $662.75 respectively.

Hanson says they are also currently reviewing the day use and punch card fees. She hopes the price reductions will allow people to buy a membership who may not have been able to afford it before.

“For the Eastlink Centre, this is really going to increase the affordability of memberships for residents of the city of Grande Prairie… The overall goal is really to increase affordability and increase the number of people who are using the facility.”

The new fees will go into effect on April 1st. The changes for the punch pass and day use fees should be rolled out this summer. For anyone who bought a full price membership in the last few months, the centre will calculate what the refund amount will be and then it will either be refunded or applied to the person’s next membership.
