Peace Country teachers heading to city for annual convention

More than 1400 Peace Country teachers are about to descend on Grande Prairie. The Mighty Peace Teachers Convention will be held in the city from March 7th to 8th. President Chantal Gallant says the annual conference gives the teachers an opportunity to learn new things.

“It’s where we gather to learn about the latest in technology, pedagogy, curriculum assessment, student engagement, classroom management, counselling, mentorship, leadership and administration.”

The conference sees teachers from as far away as Manning, Valleyview and McLennan. It was originally started by a group of teachers and is paid for by those who attend. Over the two days, there will be a number of speakers covering topics from inclusive education to wellness. Gallant says the goal of the conference is to give teachers a way to connect and recharge.

“People come in and meet with their colleagues that they haven’t seen in a while, maybe that have transferred schools and so you’re reconnecting, you’re resetting and it just gives you more energy to get back to your classroom the next week.”
