Pomeroy Lodging comes on as Platinum sponsor for Special Olympics in Grande Prairie

Pomeroy Lodging has been announced as the fourth and final Platinum sponsor of the 2015 Alberta Special Olympics in Grande Prairie.

Like the City, County, and MD of Greenview, they’ve committed $15,000 to the event.

Vice President of Public Relations and Partnerships Jackie Clayton says the company is proud to support the communities it operates in.

“One of our five core values is family, and at any time we’re ready to step up and help our family; we’re part of the family when it comes to the MD, the City, and the County, as well as part of the family when it comes to helping organizations that bring exciting things to our region.”

The games are only three and a half months away, and local athletes are training hard in preparation.

Darren Pedersen is the captain of the floor hockey team as well as on the leadership team, and says he’s looking forward to putting on great show for the home crowd.

“It’s an honour, not only to represent the City of Grande Prairie, but to represent Special Olympics as a leader. Just the chance to compete and have fun and have family and friends get a chance to watch me compete.”

Kevin Simon also plays floor hockey, and looks forward to the competition.

“My greatest strength in floor hockey is how fast I run. I like to pass to my teammates.”

Being on a team is also important to Kaylee Cramer, who is a curler.

“I always give them high fives and make friends.”

It was announced this morning that 758 athletes, coaches and mission staff will be making their way to the Swan City for the games.
