It’s not uncommon for students at Rycroft School to forget their lunch or be hungry after a long bus ride and early morning.
That’s why the K-8 school started its Snack Shack – a selection of free, nutritious food and drinks, which has now been sponsored by Louis Dreyfus Canada.
The local division of the commodities company has committed $3,500 a year over the next three years, which Principal Casey Brown says it’s a great relief.
“A couple of years ago we had the Dine and Shine program with FCSS, and then they weren’t able to continue that, so last year we were providing snacks every morning, but it was hit or miss depending on if they were hungry or not and it wasn’t at the right time.”
Now a healthy snack is at their fingertips any time their stomach is grumbling.
