UPDATE: state of local emergency for Village of Rycroft cancelled

UPDATE: The state of local emergency has been cancelled as of Friday at 6:50 p.m. The break has been located on 51 Street between 46 and 48 Avenue. A boil water advisory is currently in effect.

A state of local emergency has now been issued for the Village of Rycroft following a water main break. An initial Alberta Emergency Alert was issued just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, with the Central Peace Regional Emergency Management Agency warning that potable water supplies were low.

The water distribution system has been shut down while crews fix the leak. According to the alert, while repairs are being made, water may come out of the tap but people are being reminded not to drink it.

People in the area of the MD of Spirit River are asked to limit their water use to emergencies and essential use only. The alert will stay in effect until the break is fixed and supply levels go back to normal.
