Development permit approved for crude-by-rail facility in Wembley

The Town of Wembley has approved the development permit for Source Energy Services’ new crude oil transloading facility.

This will be a joint operation between Source and Tidewater Midstream and Infrastructure Ltd and will operate out of the Source terminal in Wembley. During the transloading process crude will be pumped between rail cars and tanker trucks and eventually shipped off.

At an open house in Wembley on January 21st, more than 90 residents showed up to voice their concerns about the new facility including those about smell, noise and an increase in train traffic. Even though the development permit has been approved, there is still a chance for residents to appeal the decision.

People have 14 days from February 28th to submit an appeal in writing. Appeals can be delivered or mailed to the Secretary at the Development Appeal Board, County of Grande Prairie No. 1, Administration Building, 10001-84 Avenue Clairmont, AB, T0H 0W0.
