Catholic School District making strides on new school projects

The Catholic School Division is getting a head start on the construction of two of their new schools, while they look for a home for their new junior/senior high school.

Superintendent Karl Germann says one possibility is Whispering Ridge in the county where Peace Wapiti is installing an elementary school.

“That’s a dual site, so you could locate the elementary school by our junior/senior high school. Both of those would fit on that lot because they are about 8 hectares together. So they would compliment each other in terms of a whole variety of construction efficiencies and maybe transportation efficiencies too.”

Germann says before too much snow hits the ground, excavation work is getting started on the Beaverlodge Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 9 and the Royal Oaks K-9 schools.

“We’ve started work extensively on the Beaverlodge project, trying to put in the foundation here before it snows, and get steel put up in the air before Christmas. On the Royal Oaks School, we’re trying to get a bit of dirt work done so we can get pilings poured and concrete work started in March.”

Germann says they still have to do some design work and settle on bids for the construction of the two schools this winter.

Occupancy dates for both are slated for August 2016.
