Midget triple A team in playoffs for the first time in four years

For the first time in four years, the Ernie’s Sports Experts Storm are in the playoffs. After wrapping up its Midget Hockey League season in third place, the Storm will hit the ice Wednesday night against the Edmonton SSAC Athletics.

This season the Storm finished with 17 wins, 13 losses and four ties for 38 points. The Athletics finished sixth with 13 wins, 19 losses and two ties. Grande Prairie faced Edmonton twice during the regular season winning both games.

The Storm was last in the playoffs during the 2014-2015 season when they lost to the Edmonton Canadian Athletic Club Canadians 3-2 in the first round. Also in the playoffs are the St. Albert Raiders and Fort Saskatchewan Rangers who both got first-round byes and the CAC will take on the Sherwood Park Kings.

The best of five division quarterfinal series starts on Wednesday night at the Coca-cola Centre at 5:30. The teams will then head to Edmonton on Friday and then back to the city on Saturday. If a fourth and fifth game are needed they will be played on Sunday and Tuesday.
