County looking for groups to help with 2019 roadside clean-up

Community groups are now able to make a little extra money by helping the environment. The County of Grande Prairie is now accepting applications for the 2019 Roadside Clean-up Program.

The annual event gives non-profit groups the chance to earn money by picking up trash along County roadways and within hamlets. In 2018, 31 community groups cleaned over 220 kilometres of ditches along county roadways and hamlet areas. More than 12 tonnes of litter was collected, and a total of $46,130.00 was raised for their programs.

In order to participate, each person must be nine years of age or older and supervisors must be 18 years of age or older, groups must be a non-profit or charitable organization and ensure they have a full commitment from the group.

The normal payment amount per kilometre is $150. If volunteers take the waste collected to a designated County bin or the nearest landfill, they can earn an extra $200. All the paperwork and application forms can be found here. Deadline to submit is March 28th at 4 p.m.
