Eastlink Centre looking at lowering membership fees

Memberships to the Eastlink Centre may soon cost less for people in Grande Prairie. On Tuesday, Financial Business Advisor Shauna Hanson asked the city to approve rate changes for each of the centre’s memberships.

“We are wanting to reduce the family, adult and senior annual, six month and monthly continuous memberships by 15 per cent. The students annual, six month and monthly by 20 per cent and youth and child annual, six month and monthly by 25 per cent.”

In order to reach those numbers, they looked at the membership fees for six other facilities in Alberta and found that the Eastlink Centre’s prices were  15 to 20 per cent higher than similar places. With the new discounts, Hanson says it brings the centre in line with other facilities.

Currently, the centre offers a corporate discount and an anniversary discount. For those who don’t qualify, an annual prepaid membership for a family is $1528.80 and for an adult, its $764.40. With the discounts, Hanson says those numbers would go down to $1325.50 and $662.75 respectively.

“The basis was really to make the Eastlink Centre more affordable for all residents. For residents that currently can’t get our corporate discount or aren’t available to get the anniversary sale discount we really want to provide that pricing for our members and it really makes it more affordable for everybody.”

The fee changes would need to be approved at the next council meeting before they are put into place. If approved, they will go into effect on April 1st.

For anyone who purchased a full price membership in the last few months once the change is made, Eastlink will calculate what the refund amount will be and then it will either be refunded or applied to the person’s next membership.
