New multi-modal logistics park opens in Clairmont

The new multi-modal logistics park in the County of Grande Prairie is officially open for business.

The Grande Prairie Regional Logistics Park is a container depot just north of the city on 156th Avenue, which Side Group of Companies President Al Side says will handle and distribute products from a variety of industries.

“From fertilizer to producer cars to maybe even down the road there might be cooler cars with beef in them. Whatever we produce has to go to market, doesn’t it?”

Along with being next to two highways, the site is serviced by CN Rail, and connects to the main yard in Grande Prairie.

Side expects it to greatly cut costs for local companies, as before it existed, only one load of a commodity could be put on a truck at a time to be shipped out of town, which is an expensive process.

“If you go by it and you see 50 or 60 rail cars in there, you’ll know that we’re doing our job. There will be warehousing in there; just pretty much what GP Reload does but a little broader.”

Plans for it have been in the works with the County for more than 10 years.
