AMA offers winter walking tips

Winter driving conditions can be a tricky to navigate for motorists, but it’s not always a walk in the park for pedestrians either.

Shelley Biendarra is the AMA Regional School Safety Patrol coordinator.

She has a few tips for pedestrians to keep in mind this winter, like giving the traffic around your full attention.

“If you want to have an iPod, fine, but leave one ear bud out so that you can still hear traffic. Especially if emergency vehicles are coming up behind you, you need to hear, and if you’ve got your music on, you can’t hear that.”

Biendarra says you should put your phone away all together while using a crosswalk, and make sure you are visible to drivers, especially when walking after dark.
