An extreme cold warning remains in effect for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview and Peace River – Fairview – High Prairie – Manning regions more than eight days after one was first issued. Environment Canada says extreme cold conditions are expected to continue Sunday night in areas without much cloud,
The coldest wind chill values will be between minus 40 and minus 50. Some areas may see extreme wind chills into Wednesday. Environment Canada warns the weather puts everyone at risk.
“Watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.”
It’s likely another record cold day will be recorded Sunday in Grande Prairie. The record low for February 10th was set at minus 34.1 degrees in 1985, and it reached nearly as low as minus 39 around 9 a.m.
