Western Alberta unemployment rate drops to 4.8 per cent
The western part of Alberta once again has the second lowest unemployment rate in the province. Statistics Canada says the economic region that houses Grande Prairie and Peace River dipped to 4.8 per cent in January. That’s down from 5.2 in December and 5.9 per cent a year earlier.
The region with the lowest rate in Alberta is Red Deer at 4.4 per cent while the province’s overall is 6.8. That’s a jump of 0.4 per cent from last month.
Alberta lost 15,500 jobs from December to January, 14,600 of which were full-time. The national unemployment rate was 5.8 per cent in January, up from the 43-year low of 5.6 per cent in December.
