Haugen out as Greenview CAO

Mike Haugen is no longer the Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipal District of Greenview. After around five years in the role, Communications Officer Diane Carter says council wants to move in a new direction.

“They have looked for new leadership and are hoping to start recruitment soon and will have a permanent person in place, hopefully within a few months.”

The decision comes as the MD welcomes the former Town of Grande Cache as its new hamlet and ninth ward. Carter says that was a factor.

“We’re looking forward to the future so it is a good time to look ahead to new leadership.”

When dissolution happened on January 1st, all town employees became employees of the municipal district other than its CAO Denise Thompson. Thompson has since been appointed Interim Chief Administrative Officer for the municipal district, which Carter believes will make the transition more smooth.

“We’re hopeful that Denise is going to be a helpful part of that process,” she says, adding, “We do really appreciate the work [Haugen] did during that time and we wish him well in the future.”

Recruitment for a permanent CAO is still in its initial stages. Thompson says the MD is hoping to find the right fit, which she describes as “someone who has familiarity with the region and who is ready to be part of our future vision of how we can be part of northwestern Alberta and really grow.”

As part of Grande Cache’s dissolution, two of its former councillors have joined council on an interim basis. Duane Didow and Tyler Olsen will serve until the next municipal election in 2021. Dale Gervais remains Reeve.
