Burst pipe in Sexsmith not carrying oil or gas

A pipeline that burst in Sexsmith over the Christmas holidays wasn’t carrying gas or oil. Town officials have confirmed that it was instead carrying a salt water mixture.

On December 27th, 95 Avenue from 100 Street to 103 Street and 101 Street from 95 Avenue to 99 Avenue were closed. They stayed that way for most of the day and into the next as crews tried to fix the pipe. At the time, it was not known what kind of pipeline was involved.

The Sexsmith Fire Department, town crews and Alberta Energy Regulators oversaw clean up efforts.
