Man charged after police-involved shooting

A Grande Prairie man has been charged following an attempted traffic stop where a shot was fired. At around 5:15 p.m. on January 5th, a Grande Prairie RCMP officer attempted to pull over a vehicle near Crooked Creek. Police say a confrontation occurred between the officer and the driver and a shot was fired from the officer’s gun.

The suspect then drove off down Highway 43. The chase ended near Range Road 254A and Township 710 where the vehicle rolled. The man was later arrested near the Greenview Golf Course.

42-year-old Gordon Randal Rawlyk is facing numerous charges including assault on a police officer with a weapon, flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and fraudulent concealment.

Rawlyk has been released on bail until his court date. He is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on January 23rd.
