As of November 18th, Ominayak was sentenced to 1 year in jail but released for time served for possession of stolen property under $5,000 and forgery.
A large number of fake cheques and stolen ID cards have been found in a vehicle. The Grande Prairie RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit says it spotted the vehicle with a stolen licence plate in the parking lot of a business on the north end of the city on January 2nd.
Inside, police say they found roughly $11,500 in counterfeit cheques, 23 counterfeit and stolen government ID cards and several tools used to make fake documents. The seizure also included around $600 in cash, small amounts of crack cocaine and crystal meth, and an extendable baton.
27-year-old Kellie Laverne Ominayak of Peace River and 37-year-old Jennifer Beulah White of Bluesky are facing several charges. They include 11 counts of buying, receiving, or possessing counterfeit money, 21 counts of possession of identity documents, and 16 counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The women are also charged with five counts of making or having instruments of counterfeiting, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of forgery. Ominayak is also charged with identity theft. Both are set to appear in court on February 6th.
