More than 5000 local campsites booked last year

Thousands of people went camping in the Grande Prairie area last year. 5,502 campsites were booked at the areas five campgrounds. That contributed to the record number of campsites being reserved online throughout the province last year.

More than 110,000 campsites were booked in Alberta in 2018, up 11 per cent from the previous year. Below are the reservation numbers for the five local campgrounds from January 1st, 2018 to December 31st, 2018.

Dunvegan Provincial Park: 325
Moonshine Lake Provincial Park: 738
Saskatoon Island Provincial Park: 1,714
Winagami Lake Provincial Park: 840
Young’s Point Provincial Park: 1,885

Since Alberta Parks first opened its online reservation system in 2009, more than 700,000 bookings have been made. Group campsite bookings for this season open on February 4th. Individual bookings for the Grande Prairie area can be made online starting February 19th at 3 p.m.
