Vandals target Wembley Post Office again

Twice in two months. Canada Post is again reminding people to check their mail often following a second break-in at the Wembley Post Office.

Sometime during the night on January 1st, at least 19 mailboxes in the post office’s lobby were broken into. It was first reported on Facebook by a worker and later confirmed by Canada Post Media Relations.

“We can confirm that a second break-in occurred on January 1 at the Wembley Post Office. The first occurred in November 2018. Several mailboxes in the lobby of the post office were affected by these criminal acts. The damaged postal boxes are expected to be repaired by tomorrow. In the interim, affected customers can collect their mail in the post office with government issued ID.”

As of Thursday, another Facebook post says repairs were complete but that damage was also done to the inside of the boxes and some of the locks needed to be replaced. The post also says that there is no funding available to install cameras in the lobby.

The first break-in occurred on November 24th. During that incident, a social media post says eight boxes were pried open.

Canada Post says affected people concerned about ID fraud should contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 705-494-3182.

The incident remains under investigation.
