First baby of 2019 born earlier than expected

Grande Prairie’s first baby of 2019 couldn’t wait to get here. Olivia Penelope Haacke was born at the QEII Hospital at 9:04 a.m on January 1st. Father Christopher Haacke says her birth was a little bit of a surprise as she came earlier than expected.

“She’s about three weeks early… It’s pretty exciting. It’s definitely not what we expected but it is still exciting.”

Olivia is the third child born to Christopher and his wife Erika and now has two older brothers. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces.

Erika first went to the hospital at around 7 p.m. on the 31st. She says she was checked out and sent home. They later returned at 3 a.m. and doctors told them it was time to stay. Overall, mom says baby Olivia is doing great so far.

“She’s been like a sleepy little monkey. No crying really just eating and sleeping. She’s just enjoying I think being out of me and into the world a little bit.”

Mother and baby are both doing well and are hoping to leave the hospital later today.
