Fireworks, free transit close out 2018

2018 is about to go out with a bang. The City of Grande Prairie is preparing to hold its annual New Year’s Eve fireworks display on Monday night.

The family friendly event kicks off at the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in Muskoseepi Park at 6:30. There will be face painting, games, hot chocolate, sleigh rides, skating and snowshoeing.

Fireworks will then be lit over the reservoir at 10 pm. The fireworks display is weather dependent and may be cancelled if wind speeds hit 40 kilometres or if temperatures hit minus 25.

City officials recommend taking public transit as parking at the park will be limited. On December 31st, buses will run on special services hours starting at 6 am. The last bus will leave the Towne Centre Mall at 2:15 a.m. Transit will be free after 6:45 p.m.
