UPDATE: The special air quality statement has ended. As of 11 am, Grande prairie is at a two on the air quality index.
A special air quality statement is in effect for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview areas. As of 8 am on Saturday morning, Grande Prairie sits at a nine or high risk ok the Air Quality Health Index.
Enviroment Canada says the statement was issued due to elevated pollution levels.
Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
The high values are likely to last through the morning with gradual improvement late in the day.
