Spare bus driver shortage affecting service: PWPSD

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division is in need of spare bus drivers. Transportation Director Ted Gobin says the loss of 11 drivers over the past year has put a strain on the division’s spare driver list.

The PWPSD’s Transportation Department manages 102 bus routes going to 34 schools from Hythe to Crooked Creek and everywhere in between. Currently, three permanent spare drivers are covering a large area. Two of those drivers live in Spirit River.

Gobin says the Hamlet of Woking, about 40 minutes outside Grande Prairie, has been the toughest area to staff.

The earliest student pick up is 7 am with the latest drop-off happening at 5:05 pm. To apply to become a spare driver, call the school division at 780-532-7734.
