Metis Giving Tree donations being collected until Monday

There’s still time for people to bring donations to the Metis Giving Tree. Winter hats, mittens, scarves, toiletries and non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the Grande Prairie Museum until December 31st.

This is the fourth year the tree has been at the museum. As the story goes, many years ago there was a large hollow Manitoba Maple tree halfway between two isolated Metis Settlements. People would stop to rest by the tree and leave things inside. Those in need could take what they wanted from the tree as long as they left something else behind.

The tree is located inside the Campbell-Rodacker Gallery. All donations collected will go towards the Women’s Circle of the Native Counselling Services of Alberta to be given to people in need.
