County race track prepping for busy 2019 season

J.D.A. Raceway in Evergreen Park is gearing up to host more horses then ever before. Officials have announced that the track located in the county of Grande Prairie will be holding five Bank of America Challenge Races in 2019. Two more than this past year.

Over 20 racing weekend days, the Bank of America Championship Challenge; Adequan Derby Challenge; John Deere Juvenile Challenge; Distaff Challenge and the Distance Challenge will take place there.

J.D.A. Raceway is the only facility in Canada that hosts Bank of America Challenge competitions. Evergreen Park Racing Manager Pat Hill says he has worked with multiple groups to bring these types of races to the area each year.

“The Alberta Quarter Horse Racing Association and the American Quarter Horse Association have worked in conjunction with Evergreen Park for many, many years, bringing the Challenge races to the Evergreen Park each season.”

The Challenge races are used as a regional qualifier with the winners advancing to the Bank of America Challenge Championship at The Downs in Albuquerque, New Mexico on October 26th.

One of last year’s regional winners from the area went on to appear at the Championship at the Los Alamitos Race Course in California in November. Singles Cruise, owned by Janice and Barry Sather of Beaverlodge, ended up finishing fifth at the John Deere Juvenile Classic Championship.

The 2019 racing season at Evergreen Park starts on July 6th and ends on August 25th.
