Local businesses up for Alberta Awards of Distinction

Three local businesses are being recognized as some of the best in the province. Bear Creek Folk Music Festival, Bear Creek Funeral Home, and OMG! Cupcakes are all finalists for the 2019 Alberta Business Awards of Distinction.

The local funeral home is up for two awards, including the Diversity Award of Distinction given out to businesses that are inclusive and make people feel valued and respected as unique individuals.

The other is the Small Business Award of Distinction, which recognizes a small business that shows the spirit and success of Alberta’s small business community. Bear Creek Funeral Home was also nominated in the category two years ago.

“We are overwhelmed by the support of Grande Prairie and the Peace Region,” owners Doug and Eunice Friesen say. “Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for this honour.”

OMG! Cupcakes is also up for the Small Business Award of Distinction, while the folk festival is up for the Community Attraction Award of Distinction. That’s given to a business that impacts a community by making it a more attractive place to work, live, visit and play.

“We are so honoured to be a finalist,” says the cupcake shop in a Facebook post.

“We are deeply honoured to be among the finalists for the Alberta Business Awards of Distinction!” adds the festival in another. “A giant and sincere THANK YOU to all of the volunteers, sponsors, attendees, and artists who make this festival what it is.”

The Alberta Chambers of Commerce will hand out the awards in Edmonton on March 1, 2019.
