Auto-theft prevention preached during holiday shopping season

A team will again be out Thursday to remind people to protect themselves from vehicle theft. Grande Prairie Crime Prevention, Enforcement Services, and the RCMP will be handing out brochures at the Prairie Mall from 1 to 9 p.m.

Some of the reminders include keeping valuables out of sight, parking in well-lit areas, and not keeping garage door openers in a vehicle.

“Remember, a thief can steal a car in seconds,” urges GP HEAT. “An unlocked car or an open window is an easy target. Protecting your vehicle and property is as easy as locking and securing it.”

In the past, the Help End Auto Theft team has graded vehicles parked in public places to let drivers know whether they are an easy target for theft or not.
