The QEII Hospital will soon have a second portable infant cardiac monitor on its hands. More than $12,000 for the equipment was raised through the 5th annual 2day FM Cares for Kids Radiothon in partnership with the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation.
The infant cardiac monitor comes with a price tag of $17,000, and the radio station will cover the rest with funds raised through its Father Daughter Ball held in October. That event raised more than $45,000 for the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation.
The hospital in Grande Prairie currently borrows a portable infant cardiac monitor that is shared between the neonatal intensive care unit, labour and delivery and postpartum departments. The additional one will be used in the NICU to treat infants who are struggling with low heart rate and breathing issues, as well as moving them for tests.
2day FM announcers were live for 12 hours straight at the Prairie Mall Thursday, along with GPRHF Senior Development Officer Dawn Veilleux-Miller. Over the past five years, the radiothon has also raised the funds to buy two Joey BabyBeds, four neonatal cribs, five vital monitoring systems, and a neonatal incubator.
