Man shot during confrontation with RCMP

A man was shot by police during a confrontation in Grande Prairie Tuesday morning. RCMP says it tried to pull over a stolen vehicle with two suspects in it around 4 a.m., which led to a mountie firing their gun.

One man was injured and taken for medical treatment. No other injuries were reported, and police maintain there was no concern for public safety at any point.

A heavy police presence was reported on the north end of town around the UFA and BlueWave. One witness reported seeing two crashed vehicles, officers with their guns drawn, and two suspects on the ground.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to investigate the RCMP’s actions, which happens whenever someone is seriously injured or killed during an interaction with police. The RCMP will still investigate what led up to the shooting.
