Alberta Fish and Wildlife officers are reminding people about the dangers of aerated bodies of water. Recently, officers had to rescue a young mule deer buck that had fallen into a dugout in Fairview.
Because it was being aerated, the province says the ice was too dangerous for officers to go out on. However, when the deer got close enough, they were able to lasso its antlers and pull it out.
Aerating is done to help maintain water quality over the winter months but can make the ice thin. Because of that, officers are warning people that those bodies of water can be very dangerous especially to young children and people snowmobiling at night.
When someone aerates a body of water, the government says they are responsible for warning others and posting highly visible signs in the area.
