RCMP investigating mail box tampering

In light of two post office break-ins in the area, police are warning people to empty their mailboxes often. High Prairie and Grande Prairie RCMP are currently investigating incidents in Wembley and High Prairie. Corporal Chris Warren says check your box if you know something’s on its way.

“With the holiday season upon us, the RCMP are reminding people to check their mailboxes as regularly as possible and it’s a good idea to track your online order so you know when to expect any parcels.”

On November 24th, Grande Prairie RCMP was called about a break-in at the Wembley Post Office. While Warren couldn’t confirm how many boxes were tampered with, a Facebook post from one of the workers says eight were pried open during the night.

On the same day, High Prairie RCMP received reports that an unknown number of post office boxes had been tampered with. Warren doesn’t know what or how much was taken from those boxes but he says both cases are currently being investigated.

“We’re seeking any information from the public that you may have on any of these occurrences. We just want you to look out for your neighbours and report all suspicious persons and vehicles to the RCMP.”

Anyone with information about either of these incidents is asked to call their local RCMP detachment or CrimeStoppers.
