Accused driver charged in fatal pedestrian hit and run

Charges have been laid in a fatal pedestrian hit and run in Cadotte Lake. Peace Regional RCMP and EMS found a 21-year-old woman dead on Highway 986 early morning hours of November 23rd.

It’s believed the Cadotte Lake resident died of the injuries she sustained in the crash, and that the driver involved left the scene before police arrived. RCMP says officers found the suspect a short time later and he was arrested.

33-year-old Aaron Ross Yellowknee of Slave Lake has been charged with several offences. They include dangerous and impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, operation of a motor vehicle while disqualified, and failing to comply with a condition of recognizance.

Yellowknee remains in custody and is set to appear in Peace River Provincial Court Monday.
