A donation is helping to make the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital a little more comfortable. The hospital’s auxiliary has donated about $90,000 to buy furniture for the hospital’s mezzanine. Senior Operating Officer Stacy Greening says the new furniture will make the area a more comfortable spot for both staff and patients.
“The mezzanine area near the main entrance is used by staff and patients alike. It’s a nice open area for people to sit and relax while at the hospital. This beautiful new furniture will help staff, patients and their families by providing a comfortable spot to spend some time while they’re here.”
The auxiliary has been in Grande Prairie since 1922. Members raise money through bingos and casinos held during the year as well as through the hospital’s gift shop. Since the auxiliary started it has raised more than $2 million so far.
Once the money is raised, hospital staff are asked to decide what donations are needed most. This year, along with the furniture, members donated a fridge to preserve bones for bone grafting and a non-invasive temporal artery thermometer to check temperatures.
