Local optometrists celebrate World Sight Day

Today is World Sight Day, and an optometrist’s office here in Grande Prairie is doing its part to raise money for preventable blindness.

Optometrist Christina Bayer works at FYI Doctors and says for her, taking part in World Sight Day is all part of giving back and paying it forward.

“I’m aware that through it all, we’re so fortunate here in Canada to have health care available, so to think of others who their lives could be so improved to be able to go from not being able to see more than centimetres in front of you, to putting on a pair of glasses and suddenly being able to function fully.”

World Sight Day part of the global action plan to eliminate preventable blindness by the year 2020.

FYI Doctors is holding a bake sale at their office today and tomorrow, doing bottle drives, and collecting donations.

The doctors there will be making personal donations as well.

This is the 7th year of the World Sight Day Challenge, and this year’s global campaign goal is one million dollars.
