Three news schools announced for Grande Prairie

It’s official: Grande Prairie is getting three more new schools.

Premier Jim Prentice announced the third phase of education capital projects today, with 55 new schools and 20 modernizations across the province.

The Grande Prairie Catholic School District is getting the new junior/senior high school it needs, as one with room for 1,100 students is set for the city’s north end.

St. Kateri is also getting a modernization.

A new public school is headed to Royal Oaks, with room for 600 K-8 students, and another K-8 will help take some of the pressure off of the Peace Wapiti School Division in Whispering Ridge.

When that school opens it’ll have room for 450 students, but will eventually fit 600.

Today’s announcement also included 15 modulars across the three school districts and a new school for Peace River.
