Families who have left their homes in the Peace River area due to health concerns from nearby oil sands operations have reached a settlement with Baytex Energy.
The Calgary Herald reports the company has agreed to purchase the four farms they have abandoned.
Attorney Keith Wilson says the deal reached in September includes 160 hectares of farmland for an undisclosed amount.
A public inquiry into into odours and emissions from heavy oil operations in the Peace River area was held earlier this year, resulting in new regulatory initiatives from the Alberta Energy Regulator.
Among them is the requirement to capture produced gas.
