A new Common Sense Firearms Licensing Act has been introduced in Ottawa by the federal conservatives.
The bill proposes amendments to the Firearms Act and Criminal Code such as a six month grace period at the end of licensing periods.
Other proposals include making participation in firearms safety training mandatory for first time license applicants; streamlining the existing licencing system by converting all Possession Only Licences to Posession and Acquistion Licenses; changes to the Criminal Code that would not allow anyone convicted of domestic violence offences to own a gun; and making transportation authorization a condition of licencing.
Peace River MP Chris Warkentin says the bill aims to provide clarity and simplification that would impact Peace Country hunters, farmers, and sport shooters.
