City seeks annexation support ahead of merit hearings

The city has launched an education campaign for Grande Prairie residents ahead of the annexation merit hearings happening at the end of the month.

Mayor Bill Given says they want to make sure residents have a good understanding of how significant the annexation proposal is, and what it means to Grande Prairie home owners and residents.

“One of the most important things to note is that the city is constantly trying to ensure that we’re fiscally sustainable, and that we will be able to continue to provide the services and facilities that residents are looking for and have come to expect. We feel that our ability to do that will be compromised in the future if we don’t have a good mix of commercial and industrial development. The annexation will facilitate us having the type of land that attracts industrial development.”

Door knockers are being distributed around Grande Prairie, and the there is plenty of information on annexation available on the city’s website and social media accounts.
