Peace Wapiti School Division enrolment growth supports need for new schools

Like Grande Prairie’s public and Catholic school divisions, Peace Wapiti has also seen major growth this year.

Enrolment has increased three-point-seven per cent to just over 58-hundred students.

Deputy Superintendent Mark Davidson says this shows just how much they need four new schools around Grande Prairie’s borders.

The top priority is getting two replacement schools for Harry Balfour, as it’s at more than 100 per cent capacity.

They’re also seeing rapid growth in subdivisions north of the city, which is putting pressure on Clairmont Community School.

The bubble from those two K-8 schools will eventually impact Peace Wapiti Academy.
