New Grande Prairie Regional Hospital contractor picked

Construction on the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital could be starting up again soon. An Alberta Infrastructure spokesperson has confirmed a new general contractor has been selected but won’t say which company until pen has been put to paper.

“Until the contract is signed, we are not in a position to disclose the successful bidder. We remain committed to the timely completion of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and will have more details to share in the coming weeks.”

Construction on the facility has been suspended since September 10th, when the provincial government said it terminated its contract with Graham Construction. The contractor disputes the province’s version of events, saying it was responsible for ending the contract on August 17th.

An invitational Request For Proposal was issued in September, in the hopes of hiring a new construction manager by the end of October. The plan was for workers to be back on the site in November.

At this point, the exterior of the building is finished, and the interior is reportedly 75 per cent complete. Construction on the parkade has continued during the shutdown, as it is a separate project.
